Raiders supporters are well aware that Carr rarely receives the recognition he deserves. Why Derek Carr is a dark horse possibility for NFL MVP this year, competing against Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, and Patrick Mahomes, according to FanSided NFL analyst Matt Verderame: “Don’t discount Derek Carr as a possible MVP contender. Although it may sound strange, Carr has a couple things working in his favor. The Raiders boast a tremendous array of weapons, including tight end Darren Waller, receivers Davante Adams and Hunter Renfrow, and running backs. They also appear to have a terrible defense, with the exception of the edge rushers, so Carr will probably be throwing a lot. In addition, the AFC West is football’s best division. Carr will receive widespread recognition if he defeats Russell Wilson, Justin Herbert, and Patrick Mahomes. Playing for the Raiders, one of the most recognizable sports franchises, makes this especially true. Is Carr one of the favorites to win? He’s the fourth-best quarterback in his own division, so of course not. He might have the combo of tremendous stats and a terrific team season, though, if the Raiders are strong this year and make a run. NFL insider names Derek Carr of the Raiders as a probable MVP contender. Even though the AFC West is a talented league and Carr is still ranked as the fourth-best quarterback in the conference by Verderame, this coming season could be the best of Carr’s career. Even if his team hasn’t been able to make the playoffs as frequently as the franchise would like, Carr has never been a “poor” quarterback. It makes a big difference for a team that hasn’t exactly had all the pieces together that the Broncos and Chiefs have been leading the division for the past ten years. However, the Raiders are undoubtedly ready for a potential AFC West takeover with an offense that now boasts players like Davante Adams, Darren Waller, Hunter Renfrow, and Josh Jacobs, not to mention a pass rush that includes Maxx Crosby and Chandler Jones. In addition, Derek Carr has undoubtedly been overlooked during his whole NFL career, as Verderame noted. One of just four NFL quarterbacks with 4,000+ passing yards in the previous four seasons is Carr. Only 4 players over the previous 4 seasons have accumulated 4,000+ throwing yards each: NFL Talk (@NFL Talk Sports) July 15, 2022: Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, and Raiders quarterback Derek Carr Despite this, Carr was just passed over in Jeremy Fowler of ESPN’s popular Top 10 QB poll. In an interview with FanSided in April, Raiders tight end Darren Waller sang the veteran’s praises. Everyone agrees that Carr has the talent to win the most esteemed quarterback award the next year, so it appears like Fowler may need to make some changes to his list.
