3. Limit the big plays
The Raiders have had a lot of success with big plays this season, and the Rams cannot afford to let them have them. The Rams’ defense has been susceptible to the big play all season, so this will be a key factor in determining the outcome of the game.
The Los Angeles Rams
The Rams have lost six consecutive games and will be short-handed once again as they host the Las Vegas Raiders.
Quarterback
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the team claimed Baker Mayfield off waivers, and he could start if John Wolford is unable to play.
Raiders defense vs. Rams offense
The Rams will face a Raiders defense that has struggled this season, particularly through the air.
The Raiders have given up at least 360 yards total in seven of their last eight games and are ranked 30th in passing yards allowed.
Even when they are shorthanded, the Rams have two weapons capable of doing some damage in Van Jefferson and Tyler Higbee.
Chandler Jones is coming off his best game of the season, and Maxx Crosby remains a force on the offensive line.
Raiders offense vs. Rams defense
The Raiders have two of the best players in the NFL at their respective positions, so this will be a tough test for the Rams.
Davante Adams has long been one of the league’s best wide receivers, and he has been dominant this season, averaging 177 yards and two touchdowns against the Chargers.
This is the type of matchup in which Jalen Ramsey must step up and demonstrate why he is regarded as one of the NFL’s top cornerbacks.
But perhaps more important to the Rams’ chances is containing the league’s leading rusher, Josh Jacobs, who has surpassed 100 yards in each of the last three games and is the offense’s engine.
Victory Factors
1. Victory in the turnover battle
The Raiders don’t have a lot of takeaways, but they also don’t turn the ball over a lot. The same cannot be said for the Rams, who rank fifth in the league in terms of turnovers. The last thing they can afford is to give this explosive offense short fields, and with their own offense missing so many weapons, it would go a long way if the defense could assist them by giving them good field position.
2. Keep Josh Jacobs in mind.
Simply put, the Rams cannot afford to have both Josh Jacobs and Davante Adams dominate. Keeping Jacobs in check reduces the Raiders’ play-action potential, but if he gets going, it opens up the rest of the Raiders offense, and the Rams will struggle to keep up if he gets going.
